About Giulio Chiribella at The University of Hong Kong
Professor Giulio Chiribella is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Hong Kong. His research lies at the interface of quantum information theory and quantum foundations, focusing on how the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics can be harnessed to develop future information technologies, and how the power of quantum technologies, in turn, sheds light on the foundations of physics.
A central theme of Professor Chiribella’s work is the interplay between applications and fundamental principles. His research has led to influential contributions in areas such as quantum networks, quantum cloning and replication, quantum clocks and gyroscopes, and quantum computation with indefinite causal order. On the foundational side, he studies the role of information theory in quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and spacetime physics, with the long-term goal of reducing puzzling physical phenomena to a small set of clear information-theoretic principles. Prior to joining HKU in 2015, he held positions at Tsinghua University and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.
