About Dewei SHEN at City University of Hong Kong

Dewei SHEN is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chinese and History at the City University of Hong Kong. He received his PhD from Yale University and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University. His research focuses on Chinese archaeology and the social and cultural history of early China, with particular interests in material culture, Jiandu manuscript studies, and empire studies. He has conducted extensive field surveys and excavations in the Yangzi River region, North China, and Eastern Mongolia. He is the recipient of the Marston Anderson Prize for Distinguished Dissertation and the author of Ying before Its Fall: Excavating the Death and Life of an Ancient Yangzi Metropolis (2024).
