About Annie Kathuria Jhu at Johns Hopkins University (JHU)

Annie Kathuria is an Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University, where she leads the Kathuria Lab focusing on organoid tissue engineering and regenerative biology. Her research leverages pluripotent stem cells to develop advanced three-dimensional tissue models that closely replicate the micro-architecture and functional complexity of human organs. A central focus of her lab is the creation of cerebral and cortical spheroids, as well as retinal, liver, and lung organoids, to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying neurological and rare disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease. By integrating multi-electrode array systems, high-throughput imaging, and multi-modal experimental platforms, her lab enables scalable drug discovery and toxicological screening. This work supports precision medicine approaches and facilitates collaborations with industry partners interested in pharmaceutical development, food and nutrition analysis, and cellular-level toxicity assessment. Her research bridges fundamental biology, translational medicine, and applied biotechnology, with an emphasis on clinically relevant and scalable tissue models.
