Ken M. L. Yiu Polyu

Professor Ken M. L. Yiu is a Professor in the Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on database systems, with particular emphasis on query processing for spatiotemporal and multidimensional data. His work addresses both foundational and practical challenges in efficiently managing, indexing, and querying large-scale spatial, temporal, and high-dimensional datasets. Professor Yiu received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from The University of Hong Kong in 2002 and 2006, respectively, and previously worked at Aalborg University. His research has contributed to advances in learned index structures, time-series analytics, vector data processing, and spatial query optimization, supported by multiple competitive grants from the Hong Kong Research Grants Council. He has supervised a large number of Ph.D. and MPhil students who have gone on to academic and industrial leadership roles. His work has received long-term impact recognition, including the SSTD 2025 10-Year Impact Award. Their recent contributions to the field are exemplified by influential works such as "Probabilistic feature-based transformation for speaker verification over telephone networks", and "Multi-sample fusion with constrained feature transformation for robust speaker verification".
