Qing Li Polyu

Professor Qing Li is a Chair Professor of Data Science and Head of the Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a highly respected leader in data science, database systems, and multimedia and web information systems, with a long-standing record of academic, industrial, and community service contributions. Before joining PolyU, Professor Li was the founding Director of the Multimedia Software Engineering Research Centre (MERC) and a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at City University of Hong Kong for two decades. He has also held academic appointments at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Australian National University. His research spans data management, multimedia systems, recommender systems, and web technologies, with strong connections to real-world applications. In addition to academia, he has served as a consultant to major international research and industrial organizations, including Microsoft Research Asia, Motorola, and Australia’s CSIRO. Professor Li has played a major leadership role in the international research community, serving as editor, reviewer, and organizer for numerous top-tier conferences and journals in databases and information systems, including VLDB, ICDE, WWW, DASFAA, ER, CIKM, and CAiSE. He is a Fellow of IEEE and IET, a member of ACM SIGMOD, and an active leader in professional societies across Hong Kong, mainland China, and internationally.
