About Jianbin Qin Szu at Shenzhen University

Professor Jianbin Qin is a Distinguished Professor at the College of Computer Science and Software Engineering at Shenzhen University and serves as Acting Vice Dean of the Graduate School. He is a nationally recognized young talent awardee in China and a recipient of the “Youth Thousand Talents Program” and Shenzhen’s “Peacock Plan” for overseas high-level talents. He also serves as Chair of the Data Science and Engineering Committee of the Shenzhen Computer Society and Executive Deputy Director of the High-Performance Computing Institute at Shenzhen University. Professor Qin received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2013. His research focuses on database theory and systems, similarity search, vector databases, information retrieval, data governance, and AI-driven data intelligence. He proposed foundational models such as the Generalized Pigeonhole Principle (GPH) and Pigeonring Principle, significantly improving the efficiency of high-dimensional similarity queries. His work has been published in top-tier venues including ACM SIGMOD, VLDB, IEEE ICDE, and KDD, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications and multiple best paper nominations and awards. Professor Qin has led numerous national and provincial research projects in large-scale vector databases, industrial big data systems, heterogeneous data lakes, and AI-powered data management. He is also active in teaching and talent cultivation, serving as head coach of the Shenzhen University ACM/ICPC team and mentoring graduate students who have gone on to leading technology companies such as Tencent and Huawei. Their recent contributions to the field are exemplified by influential works such as "Causal relationships between circulating inflammatory factors and IgA vasculitis: a bidirectional Mendelian randomization study", and "Exploring the promise of regulator of G Protein Signaling 20: insights into potential mechanisms and prospects across solid cancers and hematological malignancies".
