Yue Xiao

Yue Xiao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at William & Mary, where she focuses on research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, security, and privacy. Her work spans AI-driven cybersecurity, including large language model attack and defense, vulnerability detection, and software supply chain security, as well as privacy compliance and AI governance under frameworks such as GDPR and emerging AI regulations. Prior to joining William & Mary, she earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University Bloomington, where she was advised by Xiaojing Liao and Luyi Xing, and worked as a security researcher at IBM Watson Research. Her research emphasizes building practical, trustworthy, and policy-aware AI systems, with a strong focus on real-world impact. She actively seeks to train PhD students interested in combining rigorous technical research with societal and regulatory considerations, aiming to foster a collaborative, supportive, and intellectually curious lab environment.
