About Ram Alagappan at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)
Professor Ram Alagappan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a co-leader of the Distributed And Storage Systems Laboratory (DASSL). He is a computer systems researcher whose work spans storage systems, memory systems, and distributed systems, with a strong focus on improving reliability, fault tolerance, and performance in large-scale infrastructure.
His research addresses fundamental challenges in modern systems, including low-latency shared logs, high-performance replication, disaggregated storage fault tolerance, and reliable key-value stores. His work has appeared at top-tier systems venues such as SOSP, OSDI, FAST, EuroSys, and NSDI, and has received multiple best paper awards, including the Best Paper Award at SOSP 2024 for LazyLog. He is the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award and actively contributes to the systems community through conference organization and program committees. Professor Alagappan is actively recruiting motivated Ph.D. students interested in operating systems, storage, memory, and distributed systems.
