About David Guy Brizan at University of California San Francisco

Professor David Guy Brizan is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of San Francisco. His research lies at the intersection of natural language processing, machine learning, and databases, with a particular focus on the personal, cultural, and demographic information conveyed through speech and typing behavior. By studying linguistic patterns and interaction data, his work aims to improve the accuracy and inclusivity of speech recognition and language technologies. Professor Brizan’s research explores how linguistic cues, keystroke dynamics, and usage patterns can be used to model cognition, influence, and demographic variation. His work has applications in speech processing, human–computer interaction, and data-driven language systems. Prior to joining the University of San Francisco, he conducted research in the Speech Lab at Queens College, taught at Hunter College, and worked in both public and private sectors, including roles at IBM and the City of New York. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the CUNY Graduate Center.
