About Qiang Yang Polyu at Shenzhen University

Professor Qiang Yang is a Chair Professor of Artificial Intelligence at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he serves as Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO) and Director of the PolyU Academy for Artificial Intelligence (DoPAAI). He is one of the world’s leading researchers and practitioners in artificial intelligence, with seminal contributions to federated learning, transfer learning, machine learning, planning, and data mining. Professor Yang received his B.Sc. degree from Peking University and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park. He has held faculty positions at the University of Waterloo, Simon Fraser University, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he was a Chair Professor for over two decades. In parallel with academia, he has played a major role in industrial AI development, serving as the founding Director of Huawei Noah’s Ark Lab, Chief Technology Advisor at WeChat, and Chief AI Officer at WeBank. He is also a co-founder of 4th Paradigm, a leading AI company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Professor Yang is internationally recognized for bridging AI theory, systems, and large-scale real-world deployment. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology and IEEE Transactions on Big Data, a former President of IJCAI, and a Fellow of IEEE, ACM, AAAI, AAAS, IAPR, CAE, and RSC. His work has received numerous prestigious awards, including the ACM SIGKDD Distinguished Service Award and the IJCAI Distinguished Service Award. He has also mentored many students and researchers who have gone on to become leaders in academia and industry. Representative publications include "Development of a Graphene-Based Wireless Displacement Transducer", and "Development and Verification of a Vertical Graphene Sensor for Tunnel Leakage Monitoring", which reflect their ongoing engagement with the field.
