About James D. Griffin at Harvard University (Harvard)

James D. Griffin is a distinguished professor at Harvard University, where he leads a major research program focused on hematologic malignancies. He earned his medical degree and completed his clinical training in internal medicine and hematology/oncology before establishing his independent laboratory. Griffin's research program centers on developing and understanding targeted molecular therapies for leukemias, with particular emphasis on Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). His work has been instrumental in elucidating resistance mechanisms to kinase inhibitors and developing novel therapeutic approaches that overcome these barriers. Recent investigations include temporal multiomic profiling of ERK inhibition resistance in relapsed AML, development of allosteric JAK2 inhibitors, and exploration of BH3 mimetics that target apoptosis pathways in leukemia cells. Griffin's laboratory also investigates proximity-induced rewiring of oncogenic kinases and dual-targeting approaches for multiple myeloma. With an h-index of 111 and over 600 publications, his contributions have significantly advanced the field of leukemia therapeutics. His work has been recognized through numerous awards and has directly influenced clinical practice, particularly in the management of CML and AML through targeted kinase inhibition and apoptosis modulation.
